CNIME, Mexico's Maquiladora Association works to inform the public about maquilas The CNIME (Consejo Nacional de la Industria Maquiladora de Exportaction A.C.), Mexico's
Maquiladora Association, is a private non-profit organization created as a civil association to represent the interests of the industry. From 1972 to 1975 the first massive expansion cycle of the Mexican maquiladora
industry took place and thus the National Maquiladora Association was born. Its formal creation was in 1983. CNIME is the only organization recognized by the federal, state and municipal authorities to represent the
interests of the maquiladora industry. This organization represents more than 80 percent of the maquiladora work-force. It represents the interest of the partners and associates in the national and international
markets, by taking the lad and achieving pre-determined goals. The main objective of CNIME comes from the fact that in acquiring importance and relevance in the the domestic and national context, maquiladoras are
under attack by interests foreign to Mexico. The CNIME wants to make it known that maquiladora activity is an opportunity for the Mexican investor and industrialist to expand their markets. Since then the
maquiladora industry has become a support for the economic growth and major source of jobs created in Mexico. In the last few years, the sustained annual growth of the industry exceeds 10 percent. By 1998, the number of
maquilas exceeded 4,000. All the committees under CNIME work to analyze, report and propose solutions for many of the subjects concerning the industry. The priorities of the the Associate Services under CNIME
are committed to keep the associates informed, assist them in government procedures and support them. Throughout the year, CNIME holds many events. At these events, associates can discuss the different sectors of the
economy and the industry's participation in society. The CNIME will continue working with unity, effectiveness and vision in order to contribute to the development of Mexico. |
