Company provides health care programs at maquiladoras
In addition to providing health care benefits via the Social Security government program, a vast majority of maquiladora's provide internal healthcare benefits on-site at their plants. Some maquilas have also started to provide child care centers.
Many maquiladoras such as Invamex provide on-site health care in the form of having within their  premises a certified doctor and nurse for the daily needs of the employees. These physicians and nurses provide preventive care for the early detection of high blood pressure, diabetes and other general diseases.
Employees having on-site medical assistance receive free vaccinations against tetanus, hepatitis, rubella, and salmonella. In addition, most facilities have a pharmacy that supply medication which is administered free of charge to the employees.
Education courses including first aid, nutrition, hygiene and reproductive health classes are conducted on-site as part of the company provided health care benefit.
Among the advantages companies have because of the on-site health programs are lower absenteeism, and healthy, productive workers.
Companies can also better manager there production schedules by not having to have their associates leave the premises for minor symptoms or general diseases which can be treated at the on-site facility.
